life is insane but One Thing remains
Geez. It's been a tough few weeks since i last blogged. Ministry is hotting up and kinda getting in the way of uni work, which is absolute nonsense these days - i hardly understand a thing and have been puking out essays which have contained nothing but that - puke! Well to be fair there was the only one essay that was due on Monday at 1000hrs. I started it at 0100hrs and finished it at 0600hrs!! Whoohoo!! I was so proud of myself :) I was getting slightly desperate, and really bored and lonely in the middle of the night, was texting people from all over the globe to pray for me. It's over but i have another one due a week tomorrow - and i hardly understand that subject either! Not to mention a 5min performance(please pray as i think about doin another slightly evangelistic one), and a Flash Animation project due nxt Thursday. I better get busy.
Here's an incident you guys can pray for me about. Over the past few weeks, God has really blessed me with some cool conversations with people, christians and non-christians alike. Here's one of them. H is a pretty blonde girl (how convenient) whom Sarah actually met when she was here, and they met up again when H went to Singapore to visit her dad who was there. Well, i know her from uni, and i met her in the library last week when i was trying to do my readings for the essay (keyword: trying) on Saturday. So we had lunch together, and before lunch, she mentioned that she'd split up with her boyfriend. So i was praying that God would give me wisdom to encourage or comfort her, and just point her to Him during this time of loss. I guess i could really identify with her, and i really felt for he. So we had lunch, and we talked about our families, and we got to mine, and she asked about my dad, and we began to talk about churches, denominations, religions... and things progressed from there. I told her about the claims Jesus made and the implications of that on our lives, and i could see she was really thinking about it. On our way back we talked about relationships and the hurt that comes with breakups, divorces, and the root problem of that being human selfishness aka SIN. Before we parted, she allowed me to pray for her (interestingly enough, her mum's recommended remedy for heartache was prayer) and she was pretty emotional by the end. I asked her if she wanted to read the Bible with me and see what Jesus had to say about the stuff we'd discussed, and she initially said yes, but texted to decline later on. I felt slightly bad for overloading her, but i really felt she was quite open so i was going for broke. Do pray that the Lord will work in her life and that she will reflect on the things we talked about - sin, Jesus and her need for him in her life. Pray that she won't be scared off and will continue to be friends with me even if she isn't open to reading the Bible together yet.
God is really faithful, and even though i'm always careful about how i talk about God's goodness and provision in my life, so that people don't think He's some kinda vending machine or some genie in a bottle who's only good for granting wishes and making their life sweet, it's undeniable how God has really laid His hand upon my life, and He has proven Himself to be faithful time and again, never leaving me in the dark or forsaking me to the elements of this sinful world. Over the past week, I've had to deal with myself, sometimes berating myself for being an absolute failure, sometimes shedding tears of regret or loneliness, and wondering, scared of what lies ahead. Being a Christian and choosing as best as i can to live God's way is difficult, is sticky and is sometimes just bloody exhausting. But, oh my God, my God is awesome and faithful and true, full of grace and truth, and as i find myself sinful and lacking in every way possible, He grants me a measure of that grace and truth with each passing day, and oh my God, knowing Jesus is so humbling, so unspeakably wonderful and so incredibly worth it.
