cosmopolitan neapolitan
Ello peepul. Was very happy to see many emails from you guys today, really appreciate the concern. Will attempt to reply them soon ok guys?
Spent the day out with cousin Greg (who's going back home to do NS in a few months... deja vu man) downtown, checkin out shops and stuff. Sent a package back to Sarah for $14 bucks. Shite. CDs back home are so much cheaper. Was listening to a cd by a girl called Missy... something or other. Not Missy Elliot but Missy something.. from Australia. She sang a song called Scar which was on air in Singapore recently. I had a listen thru her album...and it wasn't bad, but i was thinkin to myself, Kate(my sister) can sing exactly like this...and perhaps better. I'm gonna try and make Kate into a star :) Needless to say, i didn't buy her album - cos i have a songbird in my house already. (for the record, it's missy higgins.)
Greg's grown up loads since he was a kid, i remember when he was little - he was geeky and wore glasses... and with a name like Gregory and his geeky glasses we all used to call him Professor Gregory. Now he's all cool - skater boi type fella. He's off back home in a week or so to do his NS NAPFA and medical, before coming back here for a few months, then jetting back home for his enlistment. I hope he can find a few friends in ARPC who will take care of him thru his NS life (hint hint) :)
A thought that has been burrowing through my mind over the past week since i've been here... Auckland is SO cosmopolitan it's scary - there are Pacific Islanders, Maoris, Chinese, Koreans, Japs, Eurasians... so many different ppl here... apparantly they all get along - apart from the Mauris being a little pissed at the Whites for coming down and stealing their land...
It's like you wonder if you'll ever belong, because ppl seem to keep to their own ethnic groups... I miss Singapore, cos you can walk everywhere and you'll be at home. But here you're so self conscious and you keep wondering what ppl think of you, whether they're unfriendly cos they don't like your look, or just cos they had a bad day...
I guess one way of fighting prejudice is fighting prejudice within myself. Hopefully all you guys will always look at ppl thru Jesus' contact lenses... without prejudice and with a lotta love :)
